Big order: Women in the region take the online clothing market to new heights

“For tall women, the ability to go to a market and find all these new brands that have trendy clothes that really fit them… brings back the joy of shopping,” says Kayla Alexander

Barrie native Kayla Alexander, Nicole Murphy and Kesia Alexander have a lot in common they all grew up with a love of basketball and an aversion to shopping for clothes.

For years Kayla and Kesia, who are six-foot-four and five-foot-ten, respectively, and their longtime friend Murphy, who is six feet tall, have struggled to find clothes that fit them well. After years of shopping in the men’s section or settling for pants and shirts that were too short, the trio decided it was time to find a way to help other tall women find clothes. fashionable and comfortable that look good on them.

Murphy said she finally had enough walking her dog last year and was frustrated that her wrists were still cold.

“My pants and sleeves are always too short and I walked thinking there must be a better way for us to find clothes that really fit us,” she said. “I’m six feet tall which is considered ‘not that tall’ and I can fit into most American Eagle jeans, but I thought of Kayla. If I have this problem six feet tall, I figured she had the problem as well.

“I called her as soon as I got home from that walk,” Murphy says.

Since that day, they have worked with passion to find a solution to the problem they and all the other great women faces trying to find well-fitting clothes.

“We didn’t know what the solution was at the time; we just knew it was a big problem that needed to be fixed. Growing up as a tall woman there are a lot of trust issues that come with it, so when you are able to find clothes that really fit you, you feel good or sexy. or whatever you want to feel it can really help improve your overall body problems, ”says Murphy.

Their first idea was to create their own clothing line, but after a few months of research, they realized that their inexperience in fashion would be too big a barrier and decided to change direction. They ended up creating an online platform that brings together a variety of different sites where women can shop directly.

“That way tall women don’t have to think about it. They just come to TallSize.com and know when they buy from us that (these companies) have been verified by us and are created specifically for tall women, ”says Murphy.

The site, said Kayla in Russia, where she currently plays basketball, is the very first marketplace designed for tall women who want to shop for clothes and shoes. And so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive, she says.

“They are discovering new brands that they did not know existed. I know for myself, I absolutely hated shopping. Going back to school shopping… I always came back with a t-shirt or jewelry because I could never find things that were right for me, ”she says. “For tall women, the ability to go to a market and discover all these new brands that offer trendy clothes that really suit them… makes shopping fun again. “

The site currently serves Canadian and American buyers, but they hope to eventually expand to Europe and Australia, Murphy said.

“We’ve seen steady month-over-month growth which is great from a business perspective, but I think only the comments we hear from people about the need for this are huge,” says -she.

Similar to plus size, the trio want plus size clothing to be standardized among retailers, noting that their goal is to make shopping accessible and fun for plus size women so they can feel beautiful and confident in their clothing. their skin.

“Tall women exist and we are here in the world,” Kayla says. “We also want to be trendy, cute and sexy. We have a sense of style and we would like to present ourselves well too, but for some reason (the fashion industry) always assumes that taller or taller you are means you don’t want fashion.
